I have had my many downs as a believer. I may not be able to boast that I have attained a greater level of faith since I first met Jesus as a teen. I gave in completely to the yearning of my canal being and as a result rolled back down the slope miles and miles away from the crown.
"Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus" Philippians 3 vs 13-14
Thank God for the Holy Spirit who kept encouraging and reminding me that the journey ahead needs to be completed. For though I went after the pleasures of the flesh, at some points I realised that I was doing the wrong thing.
“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:17-23
To forge ahead as a focused and goal driven believer, you must forsake the things of the world completely. They are there to distract you from your high calling...
“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” Galatians 5:24-26
We shall attain greatness by the Grace of God as Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 12 vs 8-10
"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.…"
Praise God!
